Welcome to Fourth Grade!
Miss. Conohan's Fourth Grade Helpful Guide
My Dear Parents and Students!
| Let's have a positive classroom by: | |
|
1. Being courteous to your teacher and your classmates 2. Respecting everyone's property 3. Keeping track of your assignments 4. Handing in your work on time 5. Asking for help when you need it 6. Cooperating and working with classmates as a team 7. Trying your best to be a good friend to your classmates 8. Accepting full responsibility for your actions |
|
| Parent Letters and Weekly Papers: | |
| A parent letter will be sent home each
Friday. Please read the letter carefully. Many important announcements
and a preview of the upcoming week are given. Tests and special
projects are usually announced in this letter. All graded papers and the weekly letter will be sent home in a folder each Friday. Please review each assignment with our child. Please sign and return the folder each Monday on the sheet provided. All graded papers may stay at home unless otherwise noted. |
|
| Absences and Dismissals: | |
| If your child is absent on a
given day or days, please send a note to school. If requested, I will
make every effort to gather the missed assignments to be picked up or
sent home. I also ask that if your child is going to be leaving early
or leaving with someone other than the child's parent or guardian please
send a note. This makes dismissal time go smoothly. |
|
| Book Reports: | |
| Book reports will be assigned
throughout the year. There will be a total of 6 for each fourth grader
to complete this year. A variety of books and projects will be used.
Books chosen must be teacher approved to insure appropriate content and
reading level. |
|
| Neatness Policy: | |
| Every effort should be made
by the student to do each assignment to the best of their ability. This
includes the appearance of work as well as the academic content.
Loose-leaf paper should be used (not torn out from a spiral notebook
with shredded edges) and a proper heading should be included. Neat
handwriting is expected at all times. Students will be asked to redo
work that is not neatly done. Assignments done at home should also
follow this expectation. |
|
| Homework Policy: | |
| An assignment note book is
provided and each student is required to use it daily. We will be
filling it out as a class at the end of the day. I will be checking
each assignment notebook on a daily basis and signing it. I ask that
each student bring his or her assignment notebook home to be checked and
signed by the student's parent or guardian. In fourth grade, homework
will be assigned Monday through Thursday. I will not assign homework on
the weekends. Long-term projects may require weekend work. Each
student will have a homework folder that can be used for them to
transport their homework assignments back and forth to school. |
|
| Late Assignments: | |
| If a child is present on a
given day and fails to complete work in class or that night for
homework, the work will be considered late. The homework assignment
will be worked on during the child's recess time, and five points will
be deducted from the original grade. |
|
| Parent Conferences: | |
| Even though there are conference times scheduled on the school calendar, a parent or teacher may schedule a conference at anytime. Feel free to call the office or send a note expressing the desire to set up an appointment and I will contact you as soon as possible. | |
I hope the information contained in this guide will help things go smoothly this year. Keep this guide in a safe place at home to refer to when needed. If you have any questions about a section, please see me. This will be a very successful; fourth grade year. Each student is responsible for their own learning, but I will provide them all the tools and encouragement they need throughout the year. Learning is a team effort and your help will be greatly appreciated.
